Siri is a handy virtual assistant, but even with Apple Intelligence smarts, it\u2019s not the best at general knowledge. There\u2019s a reason why ChatGPT integration is coming in a later version of iOS 18, after all!<\/strong><\/p>\n

That said, you don\u2019t need to wait for the next big Apple Intelligence drop<\/a> to experience ChatGPT-powered smarts. Instead, you can set up the customisable Action Button<\/a> to automatically trigger a voice or text-based conversation with ChatGPT, making the hugely popular LLM accessible at the press of a button.<\/p>\n

We cover all you need to know about ChatGPT separately<\/a>, but for now, here\u2019s how to open ChatGPT with the iPhone\u2019s Action Button.\u00a0<\/p>\n

  • An iPhone with an Action Button<\/li>\n
  • The ChatGPT app<\/li>\n
  • The Shortcuts app<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The Short Version\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    1. Download the ChatGPT app on your iPhone.<\/li>\n
    2. Open the Shortcuts app.<\/li>\n
    3. Tap the Plus icon to create a new Shortcut.<\/li>\n
    4. Search for ChatGPT.<\/li>\n
    5. Tap \u2018Open ChatGPT Voice\u2019.<\/li>\n
    6. Tap Done to save the new shortcut.<\/li>\n
    7. Open the Settings app.<\/li>\n
    8. Tap Action Button.<\/li>\n
    9. Scroll across options until you see Shortcuts.<\/li>\n
    10. Select the new ChatGPT Shortcut you just created.<\/li>\n
    11. Press and hold the Action Button to summon ChatGPT.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        The first step is to open the App Store and download ChatGPT if you haven\u2019t done so already. It\u2019s also recommended that you open the ChatGPT app and create an account or log in, as it speeds things up once the Action Button shortcut has been set up.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

        You\u2019ll then be taken to a blank Shortcut, ready for modifying. Don\u2019t worry, it sounds way more complicated than it is. Simply tap the searchbar and search for ChatGPT.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

        Tap \u2018Open ChatGPT Voice\u2019<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

        You should see a list of shortcuts offered by ChatGPT. Tap Open ChatGPT Voice if you want to start a voice conversation when you push the Action Button, or tap Start Conversation with ChatGPT if you want to initiate a text-based conversation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
